Sexual Violence Task Force

Sexual Violence Task Force

The Sexual Violence Task Force is comprised of student representatives, faculty, staff and administrators, many of whom are subject matter experts in the area of sexual violence.  The Task Force began meeting in June 2014, since that time they have met at least twice a month. Sexual violence is a complex and sensitive issue and the Task Force is working quickly to develop a comprehensive campus campaign relating to sexual violence awareness and prevention.

The Task Force is currently working on the following:

  • Communication: This subcommittee is looking at how to best communicate with the campus community about issues relating to sexual violence awareness and prevention, options for reporting incidents of sexual violence, connecting students with support resources, and providing the campus community with information about the university’s sexual violence awareness and prevention programming and events and encouraging better participation.

  • Education: This subcommittee is reviewing the university’s current prevention and awareness programs to ensure that they are relevant and effective, to determine if any programs should be expanded, and determining if there is a need to develop and/or implement new prevention and awareness programs.

  • Evaluation: This subcommittee is developing criteria to evaluate SDSU’s sexual violence awareness and prevention criteria to ensure that the programming is effective.

  • Addressing Environmental Barriers: This subcommittee is looking at ways to change our campus’ and broader society’s culture regarding sexuality, rape, issues of consent, and sexual violence.

The Task Force is also working with Associated Students to sponsor an Open Forum to allow for student comment on the issue of sexual violence.  We look forward to the opportunity to hear from our students.  The date will be announced shortly.  The Task Force is also working on the best way to provide periodic updates to the campus community on the status of the Task Force’s work.
